About "Jaded"

So there I am with a blank canvas, bigger than I've worked on in a while.
6 hours I stared at this thing - off and on. It was driving me nuts.
I'd have an idea and then it would melt away, kept happening.
Which sucks if you've ever experienced that.
So I was forced to kill the Canvas with Black spray paint, eventually this painting came out of it.
It's like nothing I've done before and still am not sure what I think of it,
but I think this weekend will be round two. I've got two more of the same size,
so I might as well kill them too. It's pretty liberating going into it and not caring.
In the end maybe I'll love em anyways.

About Paintings

I've been trying to capture the almost abstract random quality and life that a tree has.
Each branch has an energy and randomness that reminds me of a pollock painting.
I have yet to capture this in any of the works though the brush marks are energetic.
I am hesitant to repeat his style of working, due to the fact that I'm trying to find my own voice
rather than mimic someone else. Not to mention that everyone whose picked up a paintbrush in the last 50 years has at one time thrown paint at a canvas and called it art. It's a bit overplayed. I've thought though that using his technique may not necessarily be mimicking as I have a subject matter which I am trying to capture (Nature), whereas he believed in making marks only for the sake of pure randomness.

Either way I think I'll be concentrate on expanding my focus on Nature and step back from trees for a bit. Haven't decided yet. I'm still working from two month old photos cause the lighting sucks lately for taking new pictures.

Goldenleaf tree - Original photo

This is the original photo I took that I used as reference for the painting "Goldenleaf Tree".
Sometimes I like my photos better, it all depends on whether I can
make the painting represent an actual living thing and give it life in my own way.
If I fail, they usually go in the garbage, and I swear alot.

Fall Tree Painting

I've started painting nature as well, inspired by photos I've taken.
Perfection is not as important to me when painting, compared to the
journey and act of painting itself.

Those that know me.

If you know me then you know that my mind doesn't stop.
I may not respond to you in the middle of a conversation, but that's
probably because a cloud behind you caught my eye. appologies.
I've always felt a heavy connection with nature, mainly because I
find it more appealing in many ways to the world which we manufacture.
I find myself constantly framing and obseving the natural world, this tends to
cross over into urban living as well.
I decided to take the plunge and buy a 10mp camera lately and definetly have been having fun
with it. I may not be a professional photographer, but I have always been a strong believer
that we all see the world in our own unique way. With that I thought I would share
some of the world through my eyes with the help of a lense.

Enjoy. - Deryk
