About "Hope"

Ok, so this one's a bit dark. But you can't shy away from yourself when you are painting
cause that's like lying to yourself. Once again I hit the canvas this weekend and this just came out at me. Scared the crap out of me at first, then I realized that it's really not a piece about being depressed but rather one of Biding time. waiting through the shit days for what is to come.
Which seems to have been what my life consisted of over the last six months.

So there you go, I like it, I'm lovin painting them, and I've had some great feedback from "Jaded", so I think it's time to attack Canvas #3.

About "Jaded"

So there I am with a blank canvas, bigger than I've worked on in a while.
6 hours I stared at this thing - off and on. It was driving me nuts.
I'd have an idea and then it would melt away, kept happening.
Which sucks if you've ever experienced that.
So I was forced to kill the Canvas with Black spray paint, eventually this painting came out of it.
It's like nothing I've done before and still am not sure what I think of it,
but I think this weekend will be round two. I've got two more of the same size,
so I might as well kill them too. It's pretty liberating going into it and not caring.
In the end maybe I'll love em anyways.

About Paintings

I've been trying to capture the almost abstract random quality and life that a tree has.
Each branch has an energy and randomness that reminds me of a pollock painting.
I have yet to capture this in any of the works though the brush marks are energetic.
I am hesitant to repeat his style of working, due to the fact that I'm trying to find my own voice
rather than mimic someone else. Not to mention that everyone whose picked up a paintbrush in the last 50 years has at one time thrown paint at a canvas and called it art. It's a bit overplayed. I've thought though that using his technique may not necessarily be mimicking as I have a subject matter which I am trying to capture (Nature), whereas he believed in making marks only for the sake of pure randomness.

Either way I think I'll be concentrate on expanding my focus on Nature and step back from trees for a bit. Haven't decided yet. I'm still working from two month old photos cause the lighting sucks lately for taking new pictures.

Goldenleaf tree - Original photo

This is the original photo I took that I used as reference for the painting "Goldenleaf Tree".
Sometimes I like my photos better, it all depends on whether I can
make the painting represent an actual living thing and give it life in my own way.
If I fail, they usually go in the garbage, and I swear alot.

Fall Tree Painting

I've started painting nature as well, inspired by photos I've taken.
Perfection is not as important to me when painting, compared to the
journey and act of painting itself.

Those that know me.

If you know me then you know that my mind doesn't stop.
I may not respond to you in the middle of a conversation, but that's
probably because a cloud behind you caught my eye. appologies.
I've always felt a heavy connection with nature, mainly because I
find it more appealing in many ways to the world which we manufacture.
I find myself constantly framing and obseving the natural world, this tends to
cross over into urban living as well.
I decided to take the plunge and buy a 10mp camera lately and definetly have been having fun
with it. I may not be a professional photographer, but I have always been a strong believer
that we all see the world in our own unique way. With that I thought I would share
some of the world through my eyes with the help of a lense.

Enjoy. - Deryk

Tweak the Geek

Here's an idea that I had for a reality TV show.
It would pit unathletic nerdy types against midget wrestlers
in gladiator style events. An American Gladiator for Nerds.

It's Payday baby!

Today as most deadline days go was usual, a show of patience and restraint.
Nothing worse than sitting around waiting for a client respond, and then having to rush
when they finally do, because of time restraints.

Highlight of the day was winning a lottery ticket with a lottery ticket. (Thanks Reay!)
Weird when that happens cause you win, but it's not the kind of win you really wanted, in fact it
just delays the fact that the company gets your money. Not this time baby, Reay and me we're gonna win big! Oh yeah! and then we're going surfing in Hawaii. Sweeet!

Oh Yeah, I'm totally jazzed about doing another "Animal Revolution" piece, and I think I'm gonna post the steps of how I work. We'll see. Later~ Dare :)

and now...Here's some dangerous ladies. Watchout!

Stealing is only flattering if you tell me about it.

Before I post anything further, I love art, I love that you love art and that's hopefully why you are here. I would love it if you loved my art! That would be great, because I would probably love you if you loved my art! But if you try to make a buck by wrongfully exploiting the art that I post I will hunt you down. Please ask if you want me to make something for you. I won't mind, I'd love to, but don't steal, if you really want to steal something, let me know - maybe I'll be flattered that you liked my art or ideas and let you use it.

Animal Revolution

The titles for these pieces: (Top) "The Mad Cows" (Middle) "The Lookout Post" (Bottom) "Heavy Infantry"

Here's some artwork with monkeys, because I secretly like monkeys. Don't tell.Actually the following three pieces were inspired by a piece I did years ago, if I can find it I'll post it as well. But they are all about the idea of animals revolting against the crimes which humanity commits towards every species. I enjoyed working on these, more will definetly be on the way.

Sloppy/ test2

#2 (Painter and photo)

DoodleBug By Deryk Ouseley

DoodleBug
OK so here is the first of hopefully many experimental pieces to be added here. It's not the most action packed piece I've ever done, but I like how the pretty picture
and the messy doodle flowers come together, though they are totally different.

Dare Myself

It's really late, about 4:00am - but here I am. My friend encouraged me to do this tonight,
to start a blog for "Expression" purposes. Too many ideas - not enough of an outlet...
so here I am.

1st Dare - I dare myself to use this thing. To love this new outlet. To post new content, stories, ideas, images, artwork whatever, make this all about "expression" so hopefully then at least I will either get it out of my system, or share some pieces of myself with others.

Let 's see if it works. I hope I'm hooked.
